Saint-Malo - on the tracks of "All the light we cannot see"

On the tracks of Jacques Cartier,  of Corsar captains -Surcouf,  DuGuay Trouin) or Marie-Laure Leblanc and Werner Pfennig, heroes of the 2015 Pulitzer price, Saint-Malo is a remarkable port city of Northwestern France. High granite walls surround the old town, which was once a stronghold for corsairs (king-approved pirates). Saint-Malo Cathedral, in the center of the old town, is built in Romanesque and Gothic styles and features stained glass windows depicting the town's history. Nearby is La Demeure de Corsaire, an 18th century corsair house and museum. In the nearby Saint Servan district you can still visit the Cité d'Aleth, the underground military German installations of the second world war.

Port of Saint Malo

The port of Saint-Malo, with its ferry terminal to the Channel Islands, Poole and Portsmouth is also regularly visited by foreign cruise liners and tall ships.

Several three-masters have actually chosen Saint-Malo as their home port, which fits particularly well in the landscape of the corsair city.
The port also maintains a fishing and trading activity that supplies several businesses in the region.

Among the sports activities, it is mainly water sports, sailing, surfing, kitesurfing, swimming. Saint-Malo is also an equestrian center with horse farms and a unique racecourse that remains in the town centre.

The marinas of Bas Sablons and Vauban (which enjoys a magnificent location being rightopposite the ramparts) are active as well as the Duguay-Trouin technical basin where the shipyards are based.
